I came out of the hotel this morning to find this.
Fortunately, there wasn’t anything worth stealing in the truck, so it’s nothing more than a pain in the ass. I have to contact the police and file a report. I’ve already called the rental company and they’re trying to find a comparable vehicle for me to drive. At least the would-be theif had to work for it. This is where he tried to get in the front window. The downside is that they will have to replace two windows instead of one.
While I was looking over the damage, I noticed new scratches on the passenger-side mirror. I thought someone had folded it in while in the parking lot yesterday. The scratches tell me they used their own mirror to do it.
Now I get to spend the morning filing a police report, swapping rentals, and dealing with the insurance company. What a great way to start the day!

They had their heart set on finding a burger in that Sonic bag.

Ugh, the hell is the matter with people? That sucks.

Double disappointment- it only contained the crumbs from a corn dog and some tots.

At least it was a rental?
In college my friend had her back window smashed because she left an empty cheap purse in the back seat after a sorority thing. Nothing else was taken because there was nothing in her car. She had to pay a couple hundred for a window because she got home late and forgot she threw a $20(?) purse in her back seat. People suck.

Ahhh - disappointment all around. Sorry you’re having to deal with that.

They saw the new Sonic movie trailer and got enraged. The bag triggered them.

I’m sure he thought my empty hanging bag contained something valuable. Something he could sell for his next fix. Maybe even something to wear. I guess the pair of shorts on the floorboard just weren’t his size. Maybe he just wanted to admire the r/c plane that was sitting back there. He didn’t take it, so he must not have been too impressed.

Hmm, seems like they should have been able to see that there wasn’t anything to steal. Maybe they were hoping for a gun in the center console or something.

It was definitely different, but I’m not sure I’d say it’s been fun or exciting!

I feel your pain. Sometime in the last month a prowler got into the garage where the fintail (and several other old cars) slumbers, and ransacked the interior. Nothing broken, but they made a mess, and a few small low value items are missing. Fortunately, and amusingly, they didn’t touch the hood star, nor get into the trunk where I have spare parts and a toolbox.
I suspect they got into the other old cars (56 Chevy, 66 Toronado, 50 Packard, Avanti, 64 Pontiac) in the garage too, but I didn’t look closely.

It’s a rental. It won’t cost me anything but time.
You’re right, people suck.

The back windows were tinted and it happened at night. I’m sure he thought he could see something, but he had to break in to get a closer look.

I have a neighbor who leaves skis or snowboards or a mountain bike in their Subaru nightly. With the number of cars that look like yours every morning I don’t know why they keep doing it.

Someone rummaged through my press GX the other night when I lift it unlocked . Nothing to steal so they got nothing but a few hours of my time waiting for the cops to come to file a report.

When I saw the first picture I was like, that person is an asshole but at least they broke a rear window which is probably cheaper than a front. Then I saw the other pictures.
I had a rental broken into overseas. I think it was because I parked at a train lot and the rental had a sticker by the fuel filler reminding that it was diesel only. I think it was just a big tourist flag. Thieves stole my microSD cards with all the dashcam footage from the Alps and dirty laundry. The Ipad was hidden under another bag they didn’t take. Swapped the car out at the nearest place and was on my way. I guess the rental places see a lot of this because the repair was really cheap. Like $220 or less cheap all in. Credit card insurance picked up the tab. Lesson learned. I will remove those stickers from now on.

On my 18 year old VW dual cab, the rear door window is unobtainium under $1500 but the windscreen is just $300. Clearly we need to have a public information campaign for the sc umbags of the world...

Reminds me of the Fire Department breaking the window in my wife’s old NX2000 to get our daughter out ( wife didn’t know both doors locked when you flipped the DS lock ).
The broke the tiny quarter window instead of breaking the side window.
Cost of quarter window: $325
Cost of side window: $60

M aybe it was a Chevy guy voicing his dislike for that nice f150...
As much as it sucks, it’s kind of the new normal... it’s all over, urban, suburban, rural - we even have big car prowl problems at hiking trailheads out in the middle of nowhere... I honestly don’t lock our vehicles anymore, just keep anything of value out of them. My wife’s car was gone through a few months ago, but all they got was an old USB cord she had left on the passenger seat and no damage to the vehicle. The dude even dropped his little LED flashlight - so I kinda came out on the better end of the deal!

:)
I was surprisingly calm about the whole thing. I didn’t have anything of value in the truck, so I wasn’t worried that I lost anything. My reaction was more of a sigh of resignation.

Windshields require more work to get through. And apparently so do front passenger windows.
Inconsiderate jerks.

My wife once had her car broken into. A base Mercury Lynx with only an AM radio. Out of the entire doctor’s garage, they smashed her window.
These people make no sense.

I’ve had the sticker conversation with the rental place. They are fine with you removing most of the stickers, but they would rather you not remove bar code on the windshield since they use it to scan the car into their system.

I had a fellow rummage around in my personal truck. There wasn’t anything to take, but he left a pair of pliers. He was caught on video by my neighbor when he tried to steal their outdoor TV. My neighbor recognized him. The thief worked for the tile guy who my neighbor had hired the week before.
